While most sellers react to trends, the profitable ones anticipate them. Seasonal products account for a massive share of e-commerce revenue — but you need to start sourcing 3-6 months before peak demand. Here's how to plan your seasonal strategy.

How to Use Google Trends for Seasonal Research

  1. Search your product with a 5-year view
  2. Look for consistent annual patterns (peaks at the same months every year)
  3. Note the exact month demand starts rising (this is when your listing should go live)
  4. Note the peak month (this is when you need full inventory)
  5. Note the decline (this is when you reduce ad spend and clear remaining stock)

Evergreen vs. Seasonal vs. Trending

  • Evergreen products sell year-round with minor fluctuations (phone cases, kitchen utensils)
  • Seasonal products spike predictably every year (Halloween costumes, pool floats)
  • Trending products spike once and may not repeat (fidget spinners, specific TikTok fads)

The safest strategy: build your core business on evergreen products, and supplement with seasonal products for revenue spikes.

Timing Your Inventory

For Amazon FBA, you need inventory in the warehouse 4-6 weeks before peak demand. For dropshipping, ensure your supplier has stock available during peak months. For TikTok Shop, start content creation 2-3 weeks before the trend peaks.
